Upon completion of the course students should have the ability to:

• give details of palliative nursing and the philosophy of palliative care
• give details of the care of adult patients and those close to them in the event of death
• demonstrate an understanding of existential, social and cultural dimensions of the grieving process.

• show ability to perform difficult conversations with adult patients and those close to them
• identify palliative nursing needs and plan the carrying out and evaluation of nursing.

• reflect, with a person-centered perspective, regarding adult patients and those close to them
• reflect on culture, ethics and human rights in co-produced, palliative nursing
• reflect on and analyze own thoughts at the approach of death and problems of separating own and others` needs in the nursing of adult dying patients.

The course is implemented through lectures, seminars, study assignments and practical application at a clinical training center (CTC).

Grundläggande behörighet samt avslutade kurser inom sjuksköterskeprogrammets termin 1 och 2 eller motsvarande kunskaper. Vidare krävs genomgångna kurser i termin 3 inom sjuksköterskeprogrammet eller motsvarande kunskaper.

Kursen bedöms med betygen A, B, C, D, E, FX eller F.

Examination will be based upon written individual examination, seminars and practical application.

A university senior lecturer serves as examiner for the course.
