Lärandemål
On completion of this course, student should be able to:
Kunskap och förståelse
- identify research problems,
- relate to theory in childhood interventions, and
- reflect on the connection between theory and practice in the field of interventions in childhood.

- identify research problems,
- design and carry out an empirical study under supervision,
- analyse data and interpret the results, and
- present the scientific results orally and in writing and argue for its validity.

- discuss and critically reflect on the methods used and its relevance related to the research problems, and
- critically review and discuss another student’s thesis and argue for its strengths and weaknesses.

- Opposition on another master thesis The student carries out an empirical study which is published in the form of a research report and/or as an article in a scientific journal. The master thesis course provides tools for producing written documentation of research. The thesis can be linked to ongoing research at the university and be conducted in cooperation with researchers in the international network of CHILD.
Undervisningsformer
The thesis work includes a number of seminars where theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of the thesis work are discussed. During his/her work, the individual student is supervised by a senior researcher assisted by a doctoral student.
A digital learning platform is used.
Students who have been admitted to and registered on a course have the right to receive instruction/supervision for the duration of the time period specified for the particular course to which they were accepted. After that, the right to receive instruction/supervision expires.

Förkunskapskrav
The applicant must hold the minimum of a bachelor’s degree (i.e. the equivalent of 180 ECTS credits at an accredited university) with at least 90 credits in health and care sciences, behavioral science, social work, disability research, or educational sciences, including independent, theoretical based work, i.e. a thesis or the equivalent. English proficiency is required. Exemption is granted from requirement in Swedish.
Examination och betyg
Kursen bedöms med betygen A, B, C, D, E, FX eller F.
The course is graded according to the ECTS-grading scale, with A, B, C, D, E, FX or F. The thesis can be written in Swedish or English.
To provide the degree of Master of Science with a major in Child Studies, the master thesis should reflect the topic of the student’s specialisation: Disability Sciences, Health and Caring Sciences, Special Education, or Welfare and Social Sciences.
The examination is based on instruction and course literature.
The examination must allow for students to be assessed on an individual basis. Students may not make a second attempt at any examination (or element of examination) already passed in order to receive a higher grade. Further information concerning assessment and grading criteria is provided in a study guide distributed at the beginning of the course.
Students are guaranteed a minimum of three examination occasions, including the regular occasion. If a student has failed the same examination three times, the student is entitled to request that the next examination is assessed and graded by a new examiner if possible.
The decision to accept or reject such a request is made by the vice dean of education.
In case the course is terminated or significantly altered, examination according to the present course syllabus shall be offered on at least two occasions in the course of one year after the termination/alteration.

Kursvärdering
At the end of the course, a course evaluation is performed and commented on by the course coordinator and, if possible, a student/students (course developer/s). The course evaluation, which is published on the relevant learning platform and submitted to the study administration, is to function as a basis for future improvements to the course.

The course requirements are to participate actively in the master thesis’ seminars; to complete a thesis under supervision on time; to present and defend the thesis; and to prepare for the opposition on another thesis on time.
