Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- thoroughly describe different theoretical arguments related to occupation
- thoroughly analyse and argue for the significance of occupations to human health from individual, group, societal and global perspectives.
Skills and abilities
- independently analyse, identify and critically review the similarities and differences between theories, frames of reference and models in occupational therapy and occupational science and critically argue for the consequences of applying those in own practical work or area of interest
- critically discuss the origin and development of occupational therapy and occupational science
- argue for own conclusions based on different theoretical arguments related to occupation
- show clarity and logic in disposition and linguistic stringency and applies relevant terminology in written documentation.
Judgement and approach
- critically review different theoretical arguments related to occupation and evaluate their usability within different areas of occupational therapy practice
- critically review and evaluate own achievements, and identify what he/she needs to develop with respect to scientific method and argumentation.

Type of instruction
The course is implemented through a web-based distance course and consists of online lectures and seminars.
The teaching is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
The applicant must hold the minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, 180 ECTS credits or equivalent from a recognised university.
Examination and grades
The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.
Examination of the course is based on assignments in student pairs, seminars and an individually written reflection report.
An assistant professor serves as examiner for the course.
