Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
Upon completion of the course students should have the ability to:
Knowledge and understanding
- understand how occupational problems can vary throughout life with lasting functional disorders, disabilities and health conditions
- describe how environmental factors affect occupations and participation throughout life with lasting functional disorders, disabilities and health conditions
- identify the occupational therapist’s role to enable occupations and participation throughout life for individuals with lasting functional disorders, disabilities and health conditions.
Skills and abilities
- select, apply and adapt the various steps in an occupational therapy process throughout life for individuals with lasting functional disorders, disabilities and health conditions
- apply occupational therapy models/approaches as a basis for prevention, improvement and compensatory assessment directed at the individual’s occupations and participation in personal care, housing, work/school and leisure/play.
Judgement and approach
- evaluate and make decisions in ethical dilemmas
- reflect on his or her own, others’ and society’s attitudes in relation to individuals with lasting functional disorders, disabilities and health conditions throughout life.

Type of instruction
The course is implemented through study groups, lectures, workshops and seminars.
The teaching is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
General entry requirements and completion of the course Occupational therapy in profession and research, 30 credits, and 30 credits from the courses Activity and development throughout life, 30 credits and Occupational Therapy for Activity Limitations in Disability and Disease, 30 credit (or the equivalent).
Examination and grades
The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.
Examination will be based upon an individual written assignment. In addition, participation in seminars and implementation of reflection tasks are required.
A university lecturer serves as examiner for the course.
