Upon completion of the course the student should have the ability to;
Knowledge and understanding
- describe health and ill-health in children
- identify factors and support to promote and maintain health in children
- explain children and family needs in health care.
Skills and abilities
- recognize and apply knowledge on child health and ill-health
- critically analyze and evaluate nursing practice based on scientific and ethical aspects from an international and national perspective.
Judgement and approach
- reflect on reasons for the variations of health and ill-health between and within countries
- apply personal insight to the complexity of children’s health and ill-health.

- ways in which to promote and maintain health in children
- treatment strategies in ill-health needs of children with disability
- children and family specific needs in health care
Type of instruction
Lectures and seminars.
The teaching is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
General entry requirements and passing grades in courses of 30 credits in health and social welfare (or the equivalent).
Examination and grades
The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.
Subject assessment: One individual written examination and five seminars.
Assistant Professor serves as the course examiner.
