Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
Upon completion of the course students should have the ability to:
Knowledge and understanding
- explain perspectives of health and determinants of health from individual, group, and societal perspectives at national and global levels
- explain basic concepts and definitions in health economics
- describe the impact of environment and lifestyle on health, from a life course perspective.
Skills and abilities
- argue how environmental resources, obstacles and risks impact human health
- apply theories and concepts relevant to health-promotion in nursing
- relate national goals of public health to global sustainable development goals
- apply basic epidemiological concepts.
Judgement and approach
- reflect on how individual and societal attitudes, values and approaches affect prospects for health.

Type of instruction
The course is implemented through lectures, seminars and study assignments.
The teaching is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
General entry requirements and completed courses in the nursing programme within semesters 1 and 2 or equivalent, furthermore, completed courses within semester 3 in the nursing programme or equivalent.
Examination and grades
The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.
Examination will be based upon written individual examination, seminars and written assignments.
A university lecturer serves as examiner for the course.
