Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
Upon completion of the course, the student should have the ability to:
Knowledge and understanding
- critically review and analyse recent research within occupational therapy
- analyse and integrate theoretical and empirical knowledge within occupational therapy.
Skills and abilities
- independently analyse and discuss applicability of science within occupational therapy
- argue for how ethical principles affect research processes within occupational therapy
- initiate and independently carry out projects within occupational therapy
- independently present results of scientific work and argue for their validity, orally and in writing.
Judgement and approach
- critically review and evaluate own achievements, and identify what he/she needs to develop with respect to scientific method, approach and argumentation.

- quantitative, qualitative methods or literature reviews
- ethical principles of research
- defence and opposition of a thesis
Type of instruction
The course involves independent work under supervision.
The teaching is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
General entry requirements and completed courses on advanced level within Theory of Science and Scientific Method, 15 credits and 30 credits within Occupational Therapy (or the equivalent). Passed the course Occupational therapy, thesis I, 15 credits.
Examination and grades
The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.
Examination will be based upon an individually written manuscript in the form of a scientific article, oral presentation of the same manuscript and opposition of a fellow student’s manuscript as well as an individual, written reflection. Own performance and development of scientific approach and argumentation is also included.
An associate professor serves as examiner for the course.
