Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

Upon completion of the course the student should have the ability to:

Knowledge and understanding

• identify social conditions that influence health of individuals and groups
• combine new and previous knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice into new occupational therapy methods and strategies.

Skills and abilities

• identify the needs of occupational therapy measures at an individual, group and social level in role emergent placements
• apply new methods and strategies to meet the needs of individuals and groups
• demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge to deal with different situations, phenomena and issues with a focus on new areas
• exchange and compare skills with people, with and without specialist skills, in relation to role emergent placements
• be able to apply an entrepreneurial approach in terms of development, improvement and
the promotion of occupational therapy.

Type of instruction

This course comprises of a clinical placement in an occupational therapy setting. Placements where occupational therapists are not typically involved can also occur, in this case student will be supervised remotely by teachers in the occupational therapy programme.
The course starts with a day on campus and ends with a seminar of 1-2 days on campus. Discussions and tutorials will be conducted via the on-line platform wherever applicable.

The teaching is conducted in English.

Prerequisites

General entry requirements and completed courses in Occupational Therapy 60 credits including clinical placement course in Occupational Therapy (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.

The course is examined in the form of an individual written assignment which is also presented orally at a seminar. The supervisor's assessment data from the clinical training is also included.

University lecturer serves as the course examiner.

Attendance regulations
Course attendance is compulsory for at least 30 hours per week of clinical placement (workplace training). In the event of non-attendance, a supplemental arrangement is agreed with the examiner and supervisor.

Temporary interruption of a course

The School of Health and Welfare may suspend a student's participation in clinical training or other practical activities during the course if a student demonstrates gross unfitness/
incompetence when applying skills. A student whose work-based training or other practical activities have been canceled due to gross inadequacy/incompetence may not continue study before the course director or examiner has verified and approved that the student has the knowledge and skills required. In connection with a decision on suspension, the decision will specify the grounds on which the suspension is based. After the decision an individual plan will be established for the student where knowledge and skills gaps are specified, the degree of support the student is entitled to, and the terms and date(s) for examination(s).
