Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

Knowledge and understanding
On successfull completion of this course the student is expected to
- demonstrate fundamental knowledge of subject matter as well as teaching methods for teaching the assigned grade level,
- demonstrate basic knowledge of childrens' development, learning, needs and qualifications relevant to the actual teaching and learning, and
- demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of the context in which the teaching takes place, such as national curriculum expectations specific to grade and subject taught.


Skills and abilities
On successfull completion of this course the student is expected to
- display the capacity to plan and perform limited teaching activites based on the curriculum documents,
- demonstrate communicative ability in listening, speaking and writing to support teaching and learning activities, and
- demonstrate basic evaluation and assessment skills and the abilty to analyze pupils' learning in relation to the demands of the curriculum.

Judgement and approach
On successfull completion of this course the student is expected to
- have developed an understanding of and an ability to adopt a professional attitude based on knowledge of the varying needs of pupils and the democratic mission of the school,
- have observed examples of and reflected on how cooperation between pupils, parents, and colleages may work,
- demonstrate capacity to reflect on actual practice in the school, own experiences and development, in the light of previous experiences from theoretical studies, and earlier practicums, and
- demonstrate capacity reflect over the fundamental values of the Swedish School, including the Human Rights and democratic values.

The course is located at an assigned school, where the student shall follow and actively participate in school activities according to the Learning Outcomes.

The teaching is conducted in English.

Prerequisites

General requirements and 60 credits from the first semester of Teacher Education or the equivalent. Exemption is granted from the requirement in Swedish (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded Fail (U) or Pass (G).

The grading is based on a written assessment by the assigned tutor at the school, on visits and discussions with the assigned teacher from the university, and on a specific written, individual assignment.

Attendance is mandatory for the full period. This means that absence must be compensated with additional school days, at a time and place decided by the university in consultation with the tutor. Absence is reported in the written assessment from the tutor. The course coordinator is responsible for examination and grading.

Other information

The course is intended as a practicum period for incoming international teacher education students. This course is part of one full semester within teacher education and is not offered as a separate course. The course is offered subject to availability.
