After a successful course, the student shall:
Knowledge and understanding
- show knowledge of projects as a methodology, including management and coordination
- show knowledge of conventional as well as agile project management methods
- show knowledge of central leadership theories and their impact on group dynamics and individual performance
- show knowledge of how group dynamics affect the project result and work climate
Skills and abilities
- demonstrate the ability to use relevant project management tools
- demonstrate the ability to apply agile project management methods
- demonstrate the ability to analyze group processes and social roles in a project team with respect to effectiveness and results

- demonstrate the ability to compare and evaluate different concepts, processes, strategies within project management and leadership
Contents
The course consists of two major parts: Project management and Leadership.
The former part includes fundamental project methodology with methods and tools within both linear/sequential planning project management and agile project management. Methods and strategies for different project typologies are introduced.
The latter part gives an overall introduction to leadership in general and to project leadership in particular, including theories and models for how individuals, groups and leaders influence each other and the outcome of the project.
The course includes the following elements:
Project management
- Project by definition and the benefits of projects as an organizational model
- Project models and processes
- Agile project management
- Project tools within sequential and agile projects
- Project organization and the role of the project manager
- Meeting techniques - Hand-over, closure and evaluation.
Leadership
- Perspectives on leadership roles, actions and styles
- Project leadership, teamwork and group dynamics
- Social roles within teams
- Understanding motivation and needs in achieving results
- Communication and communicative skills
- Intercultural communication within projects
Type of instruction
Lectures, exercises and assignments.
The teaching is conducted in English.
Prerequisites
General entry requirements and taken courses 60 credits in first cycle in Engineering, Business Administration, or the equivalent. Proof of English proficiency is required.
Examination and grades
The course is graded 5,4,3 or Fail.
