Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

After a successful course, the student shall

Knowledge and understanding

- show familiarity with the management and control of technical maintenance
- show familiarity with the management and control of quality
- display knowledge of the difficulties and limitations in decision making and shop floor control
- display knowledge of the role of people in a production system from a production management perspective
- display knowledge of different forms of remuneration and its consequences

Skills and abilities

- demonstrate skills of evaluating and measuring the production activities at different organizational levels from individual to full production

Judgement and approach

- demonstrate the ability to evaluate the operations of a production system

Contents

The course addresses the organization, management and operation of industrial production. Manufacturing activities are treated with respect to shop floor control, decision making and measuring performance and productivity, as well as the development and management of maintenance and quality.

The course includes the following elements:
- Applied shop floor control
- Information flows
- Decision-making
- Employee compensation
- Evaluation of production performance and productivity
- Work measurement (computer based tools)
- Simulation techniques
- Total productive maintenance
- Quality management

Lectures, seminars, laboratory work and exercises

The teaching is conducted in English.

Prerequisites

Passed courses at least 90 credits within the major subject Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management or Civil Engineering, and 21 credits Mathematics, and completed courses Production Development I, Strategy and system, 7,5 credits, Production Development II, Methods and Tools, 7,5 credits. Proof of English proficiency is required (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded 5,4,3 or Fail.

The final grade for the course is based on seminars and examination. The final grade will only be issued after satisfactory completion of all assessments.
