Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

After completion of the course, the student should:

Knowledge and understanding

-Have an understanding of factors influencing the design of urban space from a technical, social, economic and ecologic perspective
-Have knowledge about the development of urban planning and design from a historical perspective
-Have basic knowledge about urban theory

Skills and abilities

-Be able to analyze the city as a habitable space, and apply his knowledge in a design project

Judgement and approach

-Be able to identify, analyze and evaluate relevant factors influencing the development and design of urban space, contributing to a sustainable development

Contents

The course aims to give relevant knowledge and skills in the planning and design of urban space from a technical and qualitative perspective, with respect to legislation, supporting a sustainable development.
The course addresses the following topics:

Urban theory:
-Basic theories and concepts

Urban planning:
-Actors, factors and perspectives influencing the design of urban space
-Sustainable development from a planning and design perspective
-Urban planning and design from a historical perspective

Design:
-Spatial analysis methodology
-Design and presentation methodology

Type of instruction

The course consists of lectures, field trips and project work.

The teaching is conducted in English.

Prerequisites

General entry requirements and completed courses in BIM Project 1, Modelling and Presetation – Architectural Engineering (6 credits) and Research Methods and Communication 6 credits (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded 5,4,3 or Fail.

The course uses grades A, B, C, D, E, FX, F for international students.
The project work is presented both as a PowerPoint presentation in front of the class, and in a written report. The project work is assessed using an assessment template.
Late delivieries will be graded as Fail (FX or F for international students).
Failed projects can be revised and gain the grade 3 (E for international students).
